Puppet Theater Group

Joe Munley and his puppet players spin tales of mayhem, love and adventure every Tuesday afternoon at OffCenter. Join the crew to write, rehearse and perform their next puppet play! All-ages. Participants under 16 must have an adult with them.

Card Making & Collage Group

Making funky collage cards is elevated to fine fun during our free weekly drop-in Card Making Group facilitated by Sally Bergen. Participants can keep their creations or donate the cards they make to OffCenter. All materials are provided.

Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon
Join long-time OffCenter teacher David Blecha for a weekly drawing workgroup on Saturday mornings! We’ll alternate between working from still life set-ups and drawing prompts, with opportunities for individual work and collaborations. Whether you consider yourself an advanced artist or if you think: “I can’t draw!” - come play with drawing with us!

Drawing Basics
So you think you can't draw? This class will give you tools to create your own studies, as we explore drawing from life, prompt, and imagination. Learn the basic skills and elements for dynamic drawings! No experience required.
Macrame Plant Hangers - December
In this beginner-friendly class, Steph will guide attendees through the process of creating macramé plant hangers using a mix of traditional cotton cord and non-traditional materials like yarn. She will introduce severalfoundational knots (square knot, half knot/ spiral knot, barrel knot) that attendees can apply to future knotted creations!

Matchbox Pocket Affirmations Class
Start the year out right and create your own matchbox pocket affirmations! We will use mixed media collage techniques and do a mini weaving inside an empty matchbox. Create your own personal affirmation to inform the new year with positive energy.

Learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase and decrease stitches, and fix dropped stitches in this Intro to Knitting class.
Whether you are brand new to knitting or need a refresher, this introductory class will teach you the basics and get you hands on and creating!
Acrylic Painting - The Basics and Play
Join us in learning the basics of painting with acrylics. We’ll learn to set up a painting palette, the surfaces to paint on, paints and their properties, brushes, mark making and more. Then we will paint and play!

Altering Clothes for Comfort
This sewing class is ideal for folks interested in upcycling materials and adjusting clothes to meet their needs. Participants will learn how to hem a top and bottom and must have experience using a sewing machine.
Welcome to Acrylic Painting

Dream Box Creations
Imagine your dreams in 3D! Through layered tactile materials, we will transform an ordinary box into a dream box that holds intentions and tiny creations. Everyone will leave with a personalized box, a few easy mixed media techniques, and a creative tool you can return to for inspiration and reflection as you grow.

With line quality similar to pen and ink, this intaglio process allows you to reproduce drawings while maintaining a lively, sketchy look. Starting with sheets of acrylic, we'll carve and scratch into the plastic to make various lines and textures.

No fear – just play! Using acrylic painting, collage and mark making we will explore the freedom of play and curiosity. Come prepared to experiment as you learn to express yourself in the aliveness of color, line and form.
Sumptuous Still Life Painting
This intermediate-level class combines drawing and painting techniques to create dynamic still life images. A demo, extended painting time, as well as one-on-one support will be part of the class.

Intro to Screen Printing - March/April
Join us for Introduction to Screen Printing with Zimmy! This workshop will be a 3-session series over the course of 3 weeks. We will learn the basics of single layer screen printing using a DIY method and mostly affordable/found materials. Learn how to construct multi-colored granny squares and two easy methods for joining them. We'll also discuss and view examples of how yarn and hook size affect the overall look of a square and what you can make with your squares. Please take Crochet 101 before this class, or have previous experience with chain stitch, slip stitch, and double crochet. Materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own.
Intro to Quilting
Put your sewing skills to use in this class and learn how to sew a reusable drawstring gift bag just in time for holiday gift giving. Sewing machines and all materials provided (or bring your own if you prefer).

Star Lantern Workshop
Learn how to make a star lantern to brighten your winter. In this free drop-in workshop, you will learn how to make a small hand-held star lantern from paper and cardboard; use affordable/low-tech battery lights; and mount your star lanterns on a pole.

Illuminate the night sky. In this 2-session workshop you will learn how to make hand-held celestial lanterns from paper, recycled materials, and found objects; use affordable/low-tech battery lights; and mount your lantern on poles.

Open Mic Night - November
Join OffCenter for a night of performing arts! Share your own poetry, songs, improv, drag, or anything else! Please keep acts PG and family-appropriate, as this event is for all ages. Sign ups are first come first serve on the night of the open mic, and time slots are 5 minutes each. You must provide everything you need for your performance. All ages and experience levels invited.
Intro to Cyanotype Printing
Create stunning prints with the power of the sun! In this cyanotype workshop, you can learn the basics of one of the oldest photographic processes in existence. This printing technique creates striking prussian blue monotypes. Plus it's fun, simple, and low-mess!
Sew a Zipper Pouch
If you have ever wanted to learn how to sew a zipper, but felt intimidated or not known where to start, then this class is for you! In this class you'll not only learn how to sew in a zipper, but also work with interfacing and learn how to sew a gusset in a bag - skills that are easily transferable to other sewing projects.
This class requires basic knowledge of how to use and thread a sewing machine.

DIY Poetry Bookmaking
Ready to take your poetry or writing and create something physical to share with the world? Whether you have one completed poem or dozens, this workshop series will cover a variety of ways to prep and collect your writing in a physical form - whether that's a single page broadside, a simple zine, or a full chapbook! Learn different options for creating a fun DIY book filled with your poetry and begin to craft your project.

There’s a diverse and inviting tradition of daily writing as a way to document a year – or a life! Please come join us for a class all about making props or attachments for your Halloween costume using scraps, junk, jewelry, paper mache and more. Perhaps a parrot to put on the shoulder of your pirate costume, or a helmet for your astronaut costume? Bring any costume parts you’d like to work on, or come with inspiration and scour the studio for the perfect materials!

Sewing 102: October Tote Bag Class
Come put your new sewing skills to work in this beginning level class and sew your own reversible tote bag. OffCenter staff sewist, Alden Sobol, will guide you step by step through the process. This class is perfect for you if you have some basic experience using a sewing machine and are looking to improve your skill or confidence level.

Papermaking Workshop - October
Come learn how to build your own DIY mould and deckle and use recycled materials (papers, egg cartons, fabric) to make your own paper! In the first session of this workshop participants will build their own DIY mould and deckle. The second session will be all about making actual paper.
September Learn to Sew: Sewing Machine 101
In this beginning sewing class, you will learn how the basic anatomy of a sewing machine, how to thread the needle and bobbin, and get to practice some basic machine troubleshooting, as well as get started on your first project - making a pin cushion.
