Learn to Serge!!!

from $0.00

Come learn to use a serger! While similar to a sewing machine, sergers are designed to finish raw edges of fabric and excel at working with jersey and stretchy fabrics. They often look intimidating, but are, in fact, pretty simple to use. In this class you will learn how to thread a serger (the hardest part), and get to experiment with using it.

Basic sewing machine knowledge preferred, though not required. All materials provided. However, if you have a serger and want to learn how to use it, please bring it.

Saturday, June 7, 2:30-5:30pm

At OffCenter Community Arts Project, 808 Park Ave SW, ABQ.

Tiered pricing: Free $0 / Base $15 / Core $30 / Supporter $60

Teacher bio:  Alden Sobol (they/he) is a self-taught sewist who fell in love with sewing in 2018 and hasn’t stopped since. Custom made clothing is their favorite thing to sew, every body deserves to wear clothing that fits well and feels great, though they aren’t very picky and will gladly attempt to sew just about anything.

All materials provided. No experience necessary.

Unless otherwise specified, OffCenter classes and workshops are intended for ages 16+.

Refund Policy: All of our classes have limited capacity and often sell out. Please let us know if you are unable to attend a class you’ve registered for so we can open up the spot for someone else. If you would like a refund for your class registration fee, you must let us know at least 48 hours ahead of the class start time. Cancellations received within 48 hours or less of class start times are not eligible for refunds, but your class fee can be transferred to a future class registration instead. If you have questions about your class registration, or to request a refund or class transfer, please call, email, or talk to staff in person at OffCenter during Open Studio hours.

Why are there multiple prices? All of our classes are offered at a sliding scale, with a free option available to anyone that requests it. When possible, we make the base option available in order to partly cover the cost of the class. The core price is the "true" cost of the class OffCenter needs to cover paying our teachers and providing supplies and materials. If you are able to support at a higher level, paying the supporter price helps ensure we're able to continue offering a variety of classes and keep free spaces open for anyone that needs.

There are a limited number of free spots available online. If these are sold out, please email, call, or drop by the studio to sign up! Email info@offcenterarts.org.
