Collagraph Printing - February

from $0.00

Collagraphy is a printmaking process where artists use a variety of recycled and inexpensive materials to create editioned prints. Materials may include mat board, glue, textured materials, carborundum (grit), and acrylic media. In two 3-hour sessions, class participants will learn how to create and print their collagraph plates (matrix). The first session will consist of demonstrations, learning the various ways to ink demo collagraph plates, and creating 2 or 3  printing matrices to use the following week. The second session will be devoted to printing. The goal is to make an edition large enough to have prints for personal use as well as to sell in the OffCenter gallery. No printing experience required. Ages 18 and up.

Teacher bio: Janet is a self-taught artist who emerged from another career. She is committed to non-toxic printmaking and using upcycled materials. She is fascinated with found marks such as the ones one sees on a well-used kitchen cutting board. Rolling a thin layer of ink over the wooden board reveals the incisions. In a sense, their number and pattern is a fingerprint of the person who made them.

Materials provided. Ages 18 and up.

Why are there multiple prices? All of our classes are offered at a sliding scale, with a free option available to anyone that requests it. When possible, we make the base option available in order to partly cover the cost of the class. The core price is the "true" cost of the class OffCenter needs to cover paying our teachers and providing supplies and materials. If you are able to support at a higher level, paying the supporter price helps ensure we're able to continue offering a variety of classes and keep free spaces open for anyone that needs.

There are a limited number of free spots available online. If these are sold out, please email, call, or drop by the studio to sign up! Email info@offcenterarts.org.
